( Future Sam here, I started these thoughts a few weeks ago at the start of May 2026. I am now finishing this post up on June 1st, 2026)
So as I start a new leg of my working journey, I come home tired but excited! But the art motivation is low. I know that will shift as I acclimate to this new position and job type. Art will get reintroduced as I gain more energy. ( Future Sam here, I took on an art task and finished said art task. Very happy with the results. Not happy with the time it took. )
The Current plan. As I have odd days off ( Weekend on Activated!) I plan on making one of the days an art-infused day! I am also hoping to draw something small every day, even the days I work. ( Future Sam again, this plan did not go as planned, still figuring it out)
Here is how it would break down: 1 day off vs 2 days. I will re-evaluate when the heavy season comes a calling! Working 12 hours is a common practice. 6 days a week, overtime expected. Days off may not exist. ( I am not sure how I will handle this, but I work with a great group of people. So I have hope.)
X day off, get stuff done. Get your home in order, relax, maybe art for a bit. Do a weekend fun task. And unwind fully. Stay up if you like doing that on your weekend. (Future sam It has not worked as planned. I am turning into a morning person… Send HELP!! and more coffee!)
XX days off, finish the weekend chores. Rest and get your hobby running. Creating is better than consumption. You will feel fulfilled and alive. Not living for the weekend, living because you have a weekend. ( Future Sam I have made progress on home tasks and have plans for after I get home from my shift each day, so staying ahead on the yard works, etc.)
So what have I created lately? Small pieces of work. A drawing that I referred to earlier, which took most of the month. Small doodles on the best Christmas gift ever. Paper squares of questionable origin and humorous backstory to me.
I might bring a sketch book to work to use during my lunch period. I find this to be the most boring part of my day, as scrolling through your phone is becoming boring to me. I will tally a poll for a month to see if it sticks and how many days I draw at lunch. The next blog update will center around it.
I find great Ideas for images in small drawings or short drawings. lately.. So I am hoping to garner a collection of them and make the Hits into full-size drawings with more details. I have a page of 8.5 x11 i have folded and put it into a tiny notebook I carry every day at work. I have 3 different drawings on the page so far.
Book 3 has not been started yet. But I am hoping to start it here in June. Do what I did last time: create the template and pick a cover color. Bam it moves after that.
You all have a great week!
Sam the man
