Software Quality Assurance Engineer has been an amazing gig! I love puzzles, problem solving, Finding workaround, But most of all seeing a bug get fixed making a better product. But the landscape of this job title has taken a major shift.
What do you do? Give up? Pivot? Further education? Or take a deep breath Put on some Techno or your music of choice and look around! Can I make this work for me? What skills from this do I love and want to take with me into the next work chapter? Do I still like SQA? What don’t I like about SQA?
Make a list! Making a list of skills and needs followed by your wants should give you a picture of you next SQA job you want to keep you eyes peeled for. Add that to your job search list.
What else can I use these same skills for? Look for adjacent jobs in a slightly different field. Perhaps Quality Assurance technician or physical testing.
What if I can’t? If the list turns up nothing or little to nothing. It might be time to Pivot into something new. Be excited! Sometimes just pivoting onto something may open the opportunities, allowing you to get back into what you love.. Just with a colorful stepping stone or two and some memories.
